Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu: Don’t be a C*%T

Let’s start with the mantra that’s about to become your new favourite life hack: Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu.

A bit of Sanskrit magic to roll around your tongue, sure, but what does it actually mean? Let’s break it down:

- Lokah: All realms, all universes existing now. Basically, everything and everywhere.

- Samastah: All beings in those realms—yep, all of them. Your neighbour, your dog, and even that coworker who steals your snacks.

- Sukhino: Happiness and joy. Think good vibes, no suffering.

- Bhav: The divine mood or state of existence. AKA, tapping into your highest self.

- Antu: May it be so. Not just a wish, but a promise you’re making to walk the talk.

Now, what does this mean in practice? It’s a daily pledge to be a decent human being. It’s the universe asking, “Hey, do your actions, thoughts, and vibes lift people up—or drag them down?”

The Karma Reality Check

Cue ‘Karma’—not just a JoJo Siwa track but the cosmic cause-and-effect machine. Every thought, word, or action you throw out there? It’s boomeranging back to you. Einstein even backed this up with his whole “space is curved” thing, which we’re interpreting here as “be nice, because your energy is coming back around.”

And while it’s tempting to roll your eyes and say, “It’s a free country!” (we see you), here’s the truth: your choices shape the future—for you and everyone else. It’s not just about living your best life; it’s about making sure your best life doesn’t wreck someone else’s.

But Let’s Talk About Animals

Now, here’s the radical bit: it’s not just about people. When we chant, “All beings,” it includes animals, too. That chicken nugget? The cow’s milk in your latte? Those choices have karmic consequences. Every time we deny animals their happiness and freedom, we’re putting a big ol’ knot in our web of karma.

Want a kinder, freer world? Start by rethinking what’s on your plate. The Yoga Sutras have been saying it for thousands of years: your reality is shaped by your actions. And let’s be honest—how can we expect freedom for ourselves if we’re actively taking it from others?

Make Compassion Your Vibe

Here’s where yoga swoops in like a superhero. Yoga isn’t just about touching your toes or posting handstands on Instagram (though, props if you can). It’s about living with compassion—making choices that uplift, rather than harm.

When you chant Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, think about the world you want to live in. A kinder, more inclusive world where happiness isn’t a zero-sum game.

The Takeaway

So, next time you roll out your yoga mat—or grab your morning coffee—pause for a second. Ask yourself: “Does this choice bring more happiness and freedom into the world?” If the answer’s no, maybe it’s time for a little shift.

Remember: your lane is gorgeous, your vibes are powerful, and your actions matter more than you think. So get on your karmic journey, chant this mantra like you mean it, and get ready to create a world that feels good for ‘everyone.’
